Crisis in Gaza: War, Water, and Desperation

The picture shows a few Japanese soldiers actually slaughtering unarmed civilians. This is an actual scene from the Nanjing Massacre.

A few days ago, Gaza was also at war, and Israeli bombing and artillery turned Gaza into a living hell. Because of the fighting, civilians in Gaza have been displaced, without water, food, and electricity. If you have to say which is more unbearable, it must be the water cut off. The essential conditions for human survival are adequate oxygen and water. You don't starve to death for a few days without food. But without water intake, people become dehydrated, leading to extreme thirst. Eventually, organ failure and death.

It is well known that fresh water is scarce in this part of the Middle East. Not to mention the water shortage in Gaza, which is under fire. Although Gaza is coastal, the sea water is not drinkable. But civilians struggling to survive the fighting have lost sight of that. Refugees on the coast say they are temporarily living in UN camps. But there is no fresh water in the camps. They came here to wash up. Some people still drink seawater.

The text in the picture means, "We are here to bathe the children in seawater."November,(CCTV/AP)

Adding to the problem is that the beaches where the refugees live have become heavily polluted. Gaza is a small, densely populated city and an underdeveloped country. This sewage, which is discharged directly into the sea, affects the health of the people of Gaza all the time.

With the arrival of winter, the refugees do not know how to survive the winter in thin clothes. Aid workers at the United Nations say refugees are gathering in more significant numbers. Sanitary conditions are also getting worse. Coupled with the control around Gaza, it is difficult for aid convoys to enter Gaza to help the people of Gaza.

As the war continues, there is a shortage of freshwater resources and serious pollution and sanitation problems. Do you think the international community has a responsibility to provide more assistance and support?
